At the time we may have been distracted by a little case called Bush v. Gore. So maybe (maybe) I'll give us a pass on that one.

But the other 10 million times our elected officials have done something galactically stupid/unethical/illegal we are usually too busy being distracted by the oprah/brittany v. brangelina paparazzi cage death match and/or latest exploitive third world adoption scheme or how drunk lindsay lohan is or what joan rivers is wearing or what janet jackson isn't or when tom cruise is going to tear off matt lauer's head in some sort of human sacrifice to whatever that alien cult of his is or...have i made my point?

This is hyperbole (but not by much) Phil and Wendy Gram are like adam and eve to the current crisis and they don't even make the list above (see wendy's work at the CFTC and Enron). They're not even close to the the list. That's the problem.Jeremy R. Take, for example, the repeal of the Glass-Steagal act that President Clinton signed back in the late 1990's. This colossal screw-ups biggest backer was Sen. Phil Gramm, a Republican from Texas.(Also, chief economic adviser to the McCain-Palin disaster, btw). Back then both sides of the aisle were huckstered by bank lobbyists and that has played a large roll in getting us where we are. Republicans think there is too much regulation already, which is obviously not true as we wouldnt be here if there was and Democrats want some economic overlord with massive regulatory power, which if it is anything like any other part of government wont work. Meanwhile, the voters who elect these bozos of both parties are stuck with laws that are shaped by whomever has the more persuasive lobbyist as legislators are too busy raising money to actually spend time learning about issuesjohnnynoreply@blogger.com
